Central America Looks at
Violence, Integration
The extraordinary summit of the
Heads of State and Government of
the Central American Integration
System (SICA) is opening Tuesday
in Francisco Morazan, 30
kilometers north of Tegucigalpa,
focusing on regional
delinquency.
Dignitaries aim at taking joint
measures to reduce the
criminality lashing SICA
nations.
They are slated to analyze the
implementation of a unified
police training center, the
creation of a center to monitor
registers and the application of
regionwide arrest warrants.
Also on the agenda is the
discussion of mechanisms to
implement a rapid action
military force, a witness
protection program, the creation
of an anti-drugs school as well
as seeking consensus to classify
regional flights as domestic.
Among attendees appear statesmen
Oscar Berger, Guatemala; Tony
Saca, El Salvador; Enrique
Bolaños, Nicaragua; Martin
Torrijos, Panama; Manuel Zelaya
Honduras, plus Belice Prime
Minister Said Musa.
Likewise, Leonel Fernandez,
president of the Dominican
Republic, and Felipe Calderon,
president-elect of Mexico, will
participate in the SICA meeting
as special guests.
