African American Communities to
Meet in Honduras
The ONECA (Central American
Black Organization) will debate
in Honduras about human rights,
facing up to the free trade
agreement with the United
States, and integration among
communities, starting on
November 30.
Celeo Alvarez, president of that
entity, reported on Monday that
those are the main issues for
the 12nd ONECA General Assembly.
Another aspect to be debated
will be that regading human
rights and the economic,
political, social, cultural, and
environmental future of the
Afro-Central American
communities.
They will also analyze the World
Bank initiatives to aid that
community, as the IDF WB-ONECA
project.
The meeting will be attended by
21 organizations from seven
countries: Panama, Costa Rica,
Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala,
Belize, and the United States.
Each representative will present
a report on the adverse
situations those communities are
currently facing, Alvarez said.
The leader reiterated that the
problems of the Central American
black communities are very
similar, thus the FTA and human
rights issues will be very
interesting for the
organizations participating in
the event.
