Marchamo" On Sale Tomorrow!
Beginning tomorrow, the
Instituto Nacional de Seguros
(INS) will offer drivers the
chance to pay they annual "marchamo"
- vehicular circulation permit -
for 2007.
The government is expected to
rake in some ˘74 billion colones
(us$144 million dollars) in
taxes, some ˘7 billion colones
more than in 2006.
The law stipulates that the
charge for the marchamo is to
begin on December 1, however,
the INS decided to to advance
the sale a couple of weeks in
hopes of avoiding long lines at
the INS offices and authorized
agencies and banks around the
country.
The last day to pay the marchamo
is December 31, after which
vehicles circulating without the
permit will be subject to
confiscation and the owners and
drivers to fine. In addition, a
3% per month surchages is added
as a late penalty fee.
In addition to the INS offices,
there will be 773 points of sale
for the marchamo, including
banks, insurance agencies and
financial companies.
The cost of the marchamo is
depending on the vehicle - size,
type, year, etc. and include the
cost of basic insurance, road
tax, municipal tax, parking
fines (if any), among other
things. It will also include the
previour year(s) marchamo and
fines if it was not paid.
