Nicaragua: Police Suppress Students
By means of beats and air shots the Nicaraguan National Police suppressed the protest against the rise of the collective transportation tariff led by a group of high-school students on Monday.

The clash took place in the sector of Zumen, southern Managua, after the students of the Institute Miguel de Cervantes occupied the roads and threw stones to a bus (route 103) full of passengers.

Local television showed images of the moment where various police agents charged at the students, who withdraw to the neighboring streets.

Channel 8, interrupting its habitual programs to broadcast the protest, showed the real beating by some police officers to one of the students, a behavior hardly criticized by the population

A state spokesperson committed to investigate the incident although he assured that the police were also attacked.

High school students have joined the largest protests so far led by university students against the transportation tariff (14 cents in dollars), now increased to 17 cents in an attempt to achieve a governmental subsidy to mitigate the high fuel prices.
