Memphis
in May International Festival
2006 Celebrates Costa Rica
This year, the Memphis in May
International Festival salutes
the "eco" logical choice in
2006, Costa Rica!
Festival goers will discover the
awesome environmental wonders,
learn about the exotic animals
and insects, taste the treats of
Central America, and enjoy all
the sights, sounds, and secrets
Costa Rica has to offer. Plus
celebrate Memphis' culture of
music, food, and fun during the
30th anniversary of Memphis in
May International Festival 2006!
Memphis in May International
Festival believes that
introducing foreign nations and
diverse cultures to the people
in Memphis is its most important
mission.
Each year the festival brings
performers and exhibits from the
honored country to Memphis in
order to supply an authentic
experience of the honored
country for the people of
Memphis.
The International events occur
all over the city of Memphis in
schools, museums, and parks.
The International events planned
for each year normally include
dancers, musicians, artists,
speakers, exhibitions, arts and
crafts, and performing groups
visiting Memphis to educate the
community in regard to the
traditions and customs of the
honored country.
A bright and rhythmic design by
Memphis, local artist Nancy
Cheairs highlights the fine art
poster for the Memphis in May
International Festival 2006
honouring Costa Rica.
The poster, its colors and
motifs reflecting the tropical
environment of Costa Rica, was
unveiled Wednesday night at
Sovereign Wealth Management, the
poster's sponsor.
Cheairs is a widely collected
artist in the region. Her last
exhibition was a group of new
paintings shown at Memphis
College of Art in 2005.
The poster serves as official
symbol of the month long
international event that
includes the Beale Street Music
Festival, the World Championship
Barbecue Cooking Contest and the
Sunset Symphony.
The 2006 fine art poster will be
sold in the unsigned version for
$30 and in a limited, signed and
numbered edition for $60.
