Ecuador Rules out OPEC Return
Ecuador has dismissed the
possibility of returning to the
Organization of Petroleum
Exporting Countries (OPEC), as
the re-entry would bring more
damages than benefits,
Presidency spokesman Enrique
Proaño has said.
Proaño noted his country will
not re-enter OPEC because it is
"a body where all its members
are strong producers, which
would force Ecuador to cut its
small production quota."
The possibility that Ecuador
joins again was analyzed after
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
made the suggestion during his
brief visit to Quito in May 30.
