Guatemala Smoothing Out
Anti-Mafia Law
Guatemalan deputies are
re-analyzing Wednesday the law
against organized crime after
failed efforts to pass it.
Congress summoned legislators to
an extraordinary meeting to try
to get that initiative off.
The law was unanimously decreed
March 30 with mistakes and
omissions such the non-inclusion
of smuggling and pornography as
forms of organized crimes.
Since then, the regulation has
stalemated in the legislature
because while some grasp at the
opportunity to introduce new
adjustments, others insist on
only making minimal changes,
like those found in its
presidential veto.
