South America Readies MERCOSUR
Agenda
MERCOSUR foreign ministers are
due to meet Friday in this
capital to discuss the agenda of
the bloc´s presidential summit,
to be run in the Argentinean
province of Cordova in July.
Immersed in debating integration
in the area, chancellors from
Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and
Paraguay, plus Venezuela, are
expected to hold the 5th Special
Meeting of the Common Market
Council (CMC).
The CMC meeting, main
institution of the Southern
Common Market, MERCOSUR, will
advance with Caracas´ entrance
as a partner in the southern
bloc.
The meeting, convened by
Argentina in its condition of
temporary president of the
common market, a function that
will be handed over to Brazil in
the second semester, will also
analyze a common position for
the next gathering of the World
Trade Organization.
Ministers also evaluate
asymmetries affecting trade
within MERCOSUR, particularly
Uruguay and Paraguay, the
weakest economies of this group.
According to what was planned,
presidents will sign protocols
including the Bolivarian
Republic in the southern bloc as
fifth official member.
