Nicaraguan Media Covers Eye
Miracle
The successful ophthalmologic
treatment 131 Nicaraguan
patients are receiving in Cuba
as part of Operation Miracle has
covered wide spaces in local
press Friday.
Bolsa de Noticias Tabloide
publishes a photo-report by
Nicaraguan journalist Zelma
Flores, who travelled to Havana
for an in situ follow up of the
care given to the patients.
The 131 Nicaraguans will return
to their country next week, and
only five of them could not be
operated due to health problems
such as hypertension and
diabetes, the publication reads.
However, those patients will be
provided care in Nicaragua once
recovered, because the Cuban
government granted all the
necessary surgical equipment,
Bolsa de Noticias explained.
This is the second group of
Nicaraguans benefited with
Operation Miracle, a
Venezuelan-Cuban project aimed
at returning sight to six
million low-income Latin
Americans free of charge, in the
coming ten years.
