Literacy Vital to Change in
Bolivia
Education Minister Felix Patzi
affirmed Wednesday that the
literacy campaign to free
Bolivia from this scourge by
2009 is crucial for the current
process of changes to succeed.
A country's development is
gauged through its literacy and
number of professionals, and in
our case education also is a way
to make people aware of social
transformations.
Reading and writing will help
many Bolivians overcome poverty
and "we will become a different
nation no one will be able to
mislead to the style of previous
neoliberal governments," added
Patzi.
The minister said 100,000
Bolivians had already
successfully completed the
literacy campaign begun March 20
with Cuban technology and the
project "Yo, si puedo”.
He added that Bolivia was
deprived over 500 years from the
human right to education so it
is high time to eliminate
colonization and declare Bolivia
free of illiteracy in 2009.
