Cancer Drug on Salvador Black
Market
A stolen shipment of Glivec, a
drug used to treat chronicle
leukaemia valued at 377,000
dollars, could be circulating on
the streets of San Salvador, the
Health Ministry informed
Thursday.
There are indications the
anti-cancer medication, missing
from San Bartola Customs House,
is being sold on the black
market, according to health
officials, who said
investigations are progressing
and they will shortly report on
the possible location of the
drug.
Customs Office Chief Gustavo
Villatoro said four workers are
responsible for the loss of the
drug, and at least one will be
prosecuted for receiving, hiding
or destroying the Rosales
Hospital document requesting the
medicine.
Police have opened a phone line
to receive information on the
drug and the alleged thieves.
