Ibero American Secretary in
Ecuador
The secretary of the
Organization of Ibero-American
States for Education, Science
and Culture, Francisco Piñón,
arrives in the Ecuadorian
capital on Monday, on a visit
aimed at strengthening
scientific-technical cooperation
with this South American
country.
During his 48-hour visit, Piñón
will sign an agreement with
Ecuadorian authorities to open
an Organization of Ibero-American
States´ office in Quito.
Government spokespersons said
the deal aims at strengthening
collaboration with this nation´s
scientific, education and
culture sectors.
During his stay in Quito, Piñón
will meet with Foreign Affairs
Minister Diego Ribadeneira, and
Education and Culture Minister
Raúl Vallejo.
Mechanisms to strengthen
bilateral cooperation and means
to boost the integration process
are among the topics for
discussions at those meetings.
The representative of the
Organization of Ibero-American
States will also sign other
cooperation agreements with the
Ecuadorian Foundation for
Science and Technology and the
Ecuadorian House of Culture,
Benjamín Carrión.
Local media revealed that Piñón
will analyze the situation of
illiterate people in Ecuador,
where the 8.4 percent of the
population does not know how to
read and write.
