Guatemalan Protest Violation of
Peace Accords
Guatemalan farmers protested the
violation of the peace accords
as the Inter-American Human
Rights Commission 125th session
talks Central America.
The demonstrators, mostly from
Peten region, recalled in
Parliament that they are war
victims: orphans, widows,
elderly and crippled that have
received no compensation.
Farmer leader Francisco
Monterola Martinez said
Guatemala will not see
prosperity as long as they
continue to breach the
agreements that ended the war a
decade ago.
Parliament Vice President
Oliverio Fernandez, says the
peoples' rights have polarized
Guatemala because the right to
life and integrity has been
violated for many years.
The Legislator recalled that the
war claimed many lives and
caused many domestic and
overseas displacement, so
despite the changes there is
still need to close the gap
between rich and poor.
