Peoples Summit in Argentina
Social, union and human rights
organizations from Latin America
will meet starting Tuesday in
the Argentinean province of
Cordova in a Summit of the
Peoples for Sovereignty and
South American Integration.
The meeting, to be run until
Thursday simultaneously with the
30th MERCOSUR presidential
summit, was convened by the Yes
Movement of the Peoples, from
Argentina, the Continental
Social Alliance and the
Continent's Campaign against the
FTAA
"We will meet again to continue
the process of struggle, debate
and construction of alternatives
for Latin America," stated their
organizers last week during the
news conference.
The Cordova gathering will be
the continuation of the 3rd
Summit of the Peoples, held in
November 2005 in Mar del Plata,
which focused on the rejection
of the US-boosted Free Trade
Agreement with the Americas.
This forum will be used to ready
for the Social Forum of the
Peoples' Integration, to be run
in December in Bolivia, parallel
to the presidential meeting of
the South American Community of
Nations.
The agenda also includes defense
of water, land and environment,
native peoples, migrations and
South American citizenship,
energy, the role of
universities, health,
countryside and women.
