Cuba Graduates S African Docs
The first group of 22 South
African physicians who recently
concluded medical studies at
Cuban universities have been
graduated in the city of
Pretoria, capital of South
Africa, Granma newspaper
published Wednesday.
The new physicians have
fulfilled a five-year period in
the island's educational
institutions and completed their
residency training and exams in
South Africa, the daily states.
They must engage in community
service for a year, stated
Charity Bhengu, spokeswoman from
the South African Health
Department, then work in the
public sector for at least five
years.
Cuba, in addition of training
professionals, has also sent
doctors to South Africa, where
most of them have worked under
difficult conditions.
