Heavy Rains Batter Guatemala
Floods caused by copious rain
have cut off nearly 700 families
in Izabal, in Guatemala´s
Caribbean zone.
Sources at the National
Coordinating Committee for
Disaster Relief (CONRED) said at
least two bridges were destroyed
and access to various
communities was severed.
Heavy rains have affected 200
families across the nation,
destroyed 352 houses, and cut
off 42 communities, according to
the CONRED information.
Deputy Education Minister Celso
Chaclan informed that rains
flooded 20 schools in Izabal and
precluded 1,500 children from
attending.
The National Volcano,
Seismology, Meteorology and
Hydrology Institute predicted
heavy rains will continue to
pummel the country for the next
two days.
