Guatemala Plunged into
Extradition Matter
The arrest warrant against the
Guatemalan ex- President Alfonso
Portillo still underlies and it
is expected that Mexican
authorities solve the
extradition matter, declared
Attorney Carlos Patricio
Rodriguez on Wednesday.
"We are only waiting for the
judge's judicial opinion and for
the solution by Mexico's Foreign
Relations Ministry," Rodriguez
stated.
Portillo, who remains refugee in
Mexico, is accused of committing
embezzlement during his term at
presidency (2000-2004).
The ex-president is charged of
transferring 16 million dollars
from the Finances to the Defense
Ministry where the money was
lost.
In addition, Portillo gave four
millions and half to his friend
Jose Armando Llort in March
2001.
The ex-dignitary left Guatemala
on February 18 2004 after the
Constitutional Court deprived
him from his immunity as deputy
of the Central American
Parliament.
