Guatemala Remembers Bay of Pigs
The Cuban embassy in Guatemala
recalled the 45th anniversary of
the victory of Bay of Pigs,
where the Cuban people defeated
in less than 72 hours a
mercenary invasion organized by
United States.
The island's ambassador Omar
Morales and counselor Jorge
Pollo, who participated in that
invasion, were honored in the
activity and shared their
experiences with those attending
the ceremony.
Pollo highlighted the importance
of commemorating this
anniversary in Guatemala, where
a US intervention interrupted a
process seeking a response to
the people's needs.
He reminded that that invasion
gave way to a government that
allowed the Bay of Pigs
mercenaries to train here.
The Cuban diplomat said that
victory proved the strategic
vision of Cuban leader Fidel
Castro, who was the first Latin
American politician to become
tactically aware of US tactics
to maintain its domain on the
region.
