No High
Heels Or Smoking At Arias
Crowning
Work has begun to freshen up the
Estadio Nacional for the May 8
party - the "TRASPASO DE PODERES"
(transfer of powers) from
president Abel Pacheco to
president-elect, Oscar Arias.
Alfredo Ortuño is the man in
charge of the commission to
handle the transfer, who says
17.000 people are expected to
attend.
More than a 1.000 invited
foreign guests will be in
attendance, and 5.000 children
from different schools will be
on hand for the cultural
activities, said Ortuño.
Costa Rica has diplomatic
relations with more than 100
countries.
The Estadio Nacional is located
on the west end of the Parque La
Sabana and was the same location
for the transfer of power to
Arias in 1986.
For the event, the Comisión de
Traspaso is asking guests not to
use "high heels" and will have
tennis shoes for guests who need
them. The reason is simple, it
damages the sintetic turf.
Smoking is also out.
