CONCACAF Bans Games at Costa Rica Stadium
The regional soccer governing body on Monday banned Costa Rica's Saprissa Stadium from hosting international matches following last week's disturbances at a Saprissa-Toluca match.

CONCACAF said the ban will be in place "at least until an investigation of the events has been completed," said CONCACAF secretary general Chuck Blazer.

In Wednesday's match, Saprissa defeated Mexico's Toluca 3-2, but Toluca advanced to the CONCACAF Champions Cup finals 4-3 on aggregate score after winning the first leg 2-0.

Enraged fans at Saprissa Stadium tossed trash and other objects on the field at the end of the match, and some fans ran onto the field in an apparent attempt to attack the game officials.

Some fans earlier voiced anger that officials allowed a controversial Toluca goal that wound up winning it the championship pass.

The same stadium was sanctioned by FIFA last year after fans threw objects onto the field following Costa Rica's 2-1 loss to Mexico in a World Cup qualifier.

FIFA ruled that, as punishment, the Costa Rican national team's qualifier against Panama must be played without spectators. Costa Rica won that game 2-1.
