Late
Afternoon Bus Accident Leaves 17
Injured
A late afternoon traffic
accident involving a bus and
mini-bus left 17 people injured,
with emergency crews having to
use the "jaws of life" to
extricate one passenger.
The accident occurred when the
larger Escazú bus was travelling
south-north on the new bus route
in front of the Colegio María
Auxiliadora collided with a
mini-bus operated by the private
company Celajes travelling on
the east-west route, at the
intersection of Calle 36 and Av
enida 4.
The majority of the injured
where riding the Escazú bus. All
the injured were immediately
taken to nearby San Juan de Dis
hospital. The driver of the
mini-bus
was admitted in delicate
condition while the other
injured were all released.
Witnesses say the Escazú bus, a
public bus service and driven by
Ricardo Guzmán Aguilar, was
travelling at a high speed and
failed to obey the traffic
lights of the intersection.
