Cuban Prisoner in the US
Confident of Exoneration
A member of the "Cuban Five,"
who are imprisoned in the US,
sent a message to a Costa Rican
Solidarity-with-Cuba
organization expressing his
confidence in the men eventually
winning their freedom.
"We have no doubt that we will
win the case," said Ramon
Labanino, who also stressed the
tremendous international support
for he and his four compatriots
held in American prisons.
Labanino called for an increased
struggle for justice and for the
denunciation of delays in the
legal process caused by
maneuvers of prosecuting
attorneys.
Labanino's daughter, Aili
Labanino; and Magali Llort, the
wife of Fernando Gonzales
(another of the five prisoners)
delivered the message as they
attended the Cuban Culture
Festival in Costa Rica.
After arriving in Havana, Llort
said she has witnessed
encouraging demonstrations of
solidarity during her visit. She
announced that the committee for
the support of the Cuban men
will present a motion to US
embassy officials in Costa Rica
demanding the immediate release
of the Five. The appeal has been
signed by the local government
of Guacimo.
During women's' stay in the
Costa Rica, books by two other
members of the Cuban Five were
presented. "Poemas
Confidenciales e Inseparables"
by Antonio Guerrero and "El amor
y el humor todo lo pueden," by
Gerardo Hernandez were featured.
An exhibition of caricatures by
Hernandez was also displayed at
the Cuban embassy in Costa Rica.
The Cuban Five had infiltrated
terrorist organizations in Miami
with the mission of preventing
criminal activities organized
and executed by rightwing
Cuban-American groups in Miami.
