Gas Prices Down, Bus Fares Go
Up
The price of gasoline dropped as
of midnight last night; ¢46
colones for the price of a litre
of super and ¢27 colones for a
litre of regular.
Today, a litre of super gasoline
will cost you ¢458 colones,
while it cost ¢504 colones
yesterday. Regular gasoline
today is ¢436 colones, yesterday
it was ¢463 colones.
A check of several gasoline
stations last night we found gas
attendants taking it easy,
waiting for the big rush today,
as many motorists decided to
hold off filling up. One
attendant at the Total station
in Belen said that only people
that were down to fumes were
filling up and then only the
minimum to get by until today.
The drop is significant. The
price drop means a saving of
¢2.070 colones to fill a 45
litre tank with super and ¢1.125
colones with regular.
Notwithstanding the drop in the
price of gasoline, bus fares are
going up on 290 routes and taxis
are ready for the second of the
two-part fare hike to go into
effect next week.
The Autoridad Reguladora de
Servicios Públicos (Aresep)
approved an increase of bus
fares from ¢10 colones to ¢120
colones on 290 routes. In
October, bus fares were
increased on 2.416 routes. The
new fares go into effect once it
is published in the official
government newspaper La Gaceta.
