Nicaraguan Deputies Pro ALBA
Nicaraguan deputies will evaluate the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) as an integration proposal to benefit nations and prevent them from becoming slaves, legislator Nathan Sevilla asserted Thursday.

Speaking to Prensa Latina, Nathan Sevilla said the ALBA constituted a new project to share among sister nations without imposition and exclusions such as those of the US-thrust Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (FTAA).

Sevilla, a Congressman belonging to the Sandinista National Liberation Front, noted the US exerted pressures on the so-called "democratic" governments to turn them into its hostages by signing the treaty.

The ALBA "has become the cure for the poverty, exploitation and starvation neoliberal polices have left to the poor countries," he stressed.

The deputy considered the promotion of Latin American and the Caribbean unity, based on solidarity and separated from mercantilism and intentions to rob resources among regional nations, was among main advantages of the Bolivarian project.

He explained the first step Nicaragua had to take was to establish economic and cooperation relations with the Caracas private sector, as the government was servile to the US and would not be willing to withdraw from the FTA.

"We can no longer wait for governmental promises, we will go after immediate projects to identify what we can offer and what we need to improve the country, reduce poverty and create more jobs," Sevilla contended.

That possibility is enhanced by the project promoted by the government of Hugo Chavez and endorsed by Cuba, he added.

Nathan Sevilla recalled that Cuban President Fidel Castro labelled the ALBA as Latin American Miracle Operation that represents integration among countries, not with the empire, as in FTAA.
