Venezuela Knocks Plots against
Oil Industry
Venezuelan Legislator Julio
Moreno, from Movimiento V
Republica (MVR), denounced
opposition schemes, which
include massive attacks on the
state-run oil company, Petroleos
de Venezuela (PDVSA).
Moreno said the attack was borne
of the frustrated efforts to
topple President Hugo Chavez
with the 2002 coup and paralyze
the national economy.
He explained, on the other hand,
that PDVSA has created a
development fund to support
social programs known as
missions, called "Barrio Adentro"
for public health, and Robinson
for education, as well as
agricultural projects.
The legislator complained that
the opposition, following orders
from overseas enemies, is trying
to disrupt Venezuela´s main
industry, adding that there is a
connection between the sabotage
and the media, which Moreno
considers is staging a drive
against PDVSA.
Moreno concluded that the true
goal of the entire set-up is to
"destabilize domestic finances
and create social unrest".
