Tourist Finds 50Kg of Coacaine in Limón Beach
A Brasilian tourist, with only
hours in Costa Rica, got the surprise and scare of his life, when he
found a bag lying on the beaches of Puerto Vargas in Limón, what he
thought he had found 'treasure' when in fact it was 50 kilos of cocaine.
The visitor found the abandoned bag shortly after noon yesterday, when
he decided to go for a walk on the beach.
The man identified only by his last name, Fabinho, said curiosity got
the better of him when he tried to lift the bag and it was extremely
heavy.
Opening the bag he found it to contain something tightly wrapped in
plastic and more plastic, beginning to worry that perhaps this is how
"drugs" are packed for shipment. Digging through the bag and the plastic
wrapping he discovered a white powder, which prompted him to immediately
alert police of his find.
Police confirmed the find and realized it was part of the shipment that
was being carried by several "fishermen" who were picked up by police on
Saturday for drug trafficking.
