Man Wanted in Colorado on Sex Assaults Nabbed
in Costa Rica
A 33-year-old Colorado man wanted by
Fort Collins police on multiple counts of sexual assault on a child is
in the Larimer County Jail after a six-month search that led to Costa
Rica.
William J. "Billy" Hunsaker, a personal-injury lawyer, was arrested
Monday after it was learned he had obtained a false Guatemalan passport
under the name of William Jose Anderson Alvarez.
Hunsaker was taken into custody without incident at a residence where he
was living in Jacó Beach.
Two FBI agents traveled to Costa Rica on Wednesday and, along with two
Costa Rican immigration officials, brought Hunsaker back Thursday, Davis
said.
Hunsaker failed to appear in Larimer County District Court on Sept. 13
to face six counts of sexual assault on a child. The charges related to
a series of incidents involving an 11-year-old Fort Collins girl and her
9-year- old brother, Davis said.
Police had followed leads for six months in hopes of finding Hunsaker
when a paper trail led them to believe he had fled to Costa Rica, Davis
said.
Hunsaker allegedly used the Internet to meet a Fort Collins woman and
then sexually assaulted both of her children, police said.
The mother is in prison after pleading guilty to one count each of
aggravated incest and pimping of a child.
After Hunsaker failed to appear in court, his $350,000 bond was revoked
and a nationwide arrest warrant was issued.
Investigators said they followed a paper trail that led them to Costa
Rica.
"Our Diplomatic Security special agents are proud to assist domestic law
enforcement agencies such as Fort Collins Police Services and the FBI in
apprehending criminals who have fled abroad," said Joe Morton, the
acting assistant secretary for the Bureau of Diplomatic Security.
"Thus far in 2005, Diplomatic Security has captured 25 fugitives around
the world."
