Row Between
Two OIJ Agents And Gays
A row outside a downtown bar
gave police a surprise.
According to witnesses, early
Tuesday morning, two men stopped
the vehicle in front a gay bar and
shouted insults at those leaving
the bar and the taxis parked on
the street.
A heated exchange ensued by two
men who were apparently drunk,
who got out of their car and
rushed one of the taxi drivers
and attacked him.
Police responding to the call
were ready to confront the two
anti-socials who had fired a
weapon and created the scandal.
However, to the surprise of
police, the two men were agents
of the Organismo de
Investigación Judicial (OIJ) of
the Departamento de
Investigaciones Criminales
(criminal investigations
division).
One of the OIJ agents has more
than 5 years on the job, while
the other more than 15.
According to Jorge Rojas,
director of the OIJ, the veteran
already has a disciplinary
action pending against him for a
similar situation back in April
of 2004.
Rojas said that if the
accusations against the two men
are proven, they will be
suspended for two months and
could fired. The internal
affairs unit is in charge of the
investigation.
In the meantime, the two men
were arrested by the Fuerza
Publica and placed in the
custody of the Ministerio
Público who will take the
process through the judicial
system.
