Bus collision leaves 16 dead in Guatemala
At least 16 were killed and seven injured in a collision between a mini-bus and a truck on a road in Alta Verapaz department, north Guatemala, the local press reported Tuesday.

The accident occurred Monday evening when the mini-bus with 20 passengers rammed the truck head-on, according to dispatches released Tuesday in Guatemala City, capital of the Central American country.

A spokesman for the local fire department said the cause of the accident is not known yet.

Among the fatalities, there is a cyclist who was run over by one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

The seven injured people have been hospitalized.
