Prisoner Escapes La Reforma
Using Visiting Day Crowds as
Part of His Plan
Sunday visits at the La Reforma
prison was interrupted yesterday
morning when at 7:52am, Cuban
prisoner Manuel Tata Rodríguez,
who is in jail at the prison on
a 11 year sentence for murder,
escaped
The escape had been planned to
take advantage of the large
number of people on visiting day
causing a disturbance with the
public to make good his escape.
Unlike in several other
occasions, authorities mounted a
"show", making the man hunt
public and calling in the canine
unit of the Fuerza Publica.
In the past, prison authorities
were criticized for not alerting
the public on the escape of a
prisoner, as well as not calling
in the Fuerza Publica, the
police force, in their help to
capture the escapee.
The 46 year old Cuban escapee is
also wanted in the United
States.
Prison officials were tight
lipped on details of the escape.
