Australian Dairy farmers Get Advice from Costa Rican Farmers
Visiting Latin American dairy farmers are doing it better than their Australian counterparts when it comes to dealing with supermarkets.

Farmers in Victoria and the New South Wales coast have told a group of visiting producers from Costa Rica that poor treatment by supermarkets is a major concern for the Australian industry.

Costa Rican dairy farmer Jaime Harrington says the fresh milk shortage in his country works in local farmers' favour.

"Eighty per cent of our milk is not sold through supermarkets and if they want fresh milk they have to buy that fresh milk from our co-op," he said.

"So, we can try to defend ourselves in the negotiations so they won't harm us with the prices or the products they want."
