Couple Dead Result of Mudslide
The heavy rain claimed the lives of a young couple yesterday following a mud slide that destroyed at least 107 homes in Linda Vista y Río Azul de La Unión, Cartago.

Ana Isabel Hernández Ramírez, 29, and William Seas Carvajal, 31, weren't as lucky as their three children, Diego, 13, Danieal, 10, and Natalia who is 6 years old. The children enclosed themselves in the only part of the house that was built of concrete, the bathroom.

While Red Cross workers recovered the bodies from the mud, yesterday morning other families were attempting to recover their belonging and moving to shelters operated by the a Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) in Linda Vista and Tres Ríos.

The CNE ordered the evacuation of at least 250 persons in Rio Azul around 6pm to prevent any more loss of life. Rebeca Madrigal asked for help of the Fuerza Pública and the Red Cross to get the message to the people in the area, that it is for their own good.

The damage to the homes was mainly centred in Tirrases, Desamparados and Linda Vista de la Unión, all east of San José.

Julio Madrigal who works of the CNE said that the heavy rain forecasted during the last couple of days caused many homes poorly built to suffer damage.
