Dallas Businessman Nominated for
US Ambassador to Costa
Rica
Dallas developer Mark Langdale
has been nominated by President
Bush to serve as ambassador to
Costa Rica.
Langdale is president of the
hotel management company Posadas
USA and a founder of Caprock
Communications in Houston. While
governor of Texas, Bush had
appointed Langdale to the board
of the state's Department of
Economic Development.
The nomination must still be
confirmed by the Senate.
On Thursday, the Senate approved
a free trade agreement with six
the Central American countries,
including Costa Rica.
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas,
visited Costa Rica last year to
research the Central America
Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) or
Tratado Libre de Comercio (TLC)
as it is known in Costa Rica.
"The benefits of cooperation
between our nations for Texas
and the U.S. can not be
overstated, and I'm encouraged
that a Texan will be leading our
diplomatic efforts in Costa
Rica," Cornyn said in a
statement.
Langdale received his bachelor's
degree from the University of
Texas and his law degree from
the University of Houston.
