Baggage Handlers, Street Vendors and Hustlers at the Airport Could be Holding Winning Gordo Navideño
The Big Draw - el Gordo Navideño - was Sunday night and so far, compared to previous years when the offices of the Junta de Protección Social de San José (JPS) was jammed with winners the following day, only 14% has claimed their prizes so far.

JPS officials aslo announced that the winning ticket for the "premio mayor" for the ¢350.000.000 colones prize was sold in Alajuela and could be in the hands of 8 people that work near or at the Juan Santamaria airport (San José).

JPS officials say that these are humble and hard working people who had the luck to strike it rich.

The winning number was 03 with series 691.

"Hustler" at Juan Santamaria, Rafael Sayibe, told ICR, that the lottery vendor known as "Wagner" arrived early Saturday morning, waiting on a pilot on an unnamed airline. The pilot never showed and by noon, Wagner, was hurried to sell off his remaining lottery tickets to workers and tourists at the airport.

It was one of those tickets that won the "premio mayor".

Lottery vendors at the airport yesterday were taking advantage of the news, promoting their lottery tickets as the next possible winners, as lady luck may repeat her gift to those who work at the airport.

The JPS also confirmed that 75% of the "consolation" lottery to be held this and next Saturday (24 and 31 December) is sold out.
