President Pacheco
at His Lowest
At six months from the end of
his term, over half Costa Ricans
rate President Abel Pacheco's
performance "bad" to "very bad".
This is the way 53out of every
100 people think, while only 21
believe that the chief
executive's performance has been
"good" to "very good".
During the last 12 months,
President Pacheco's popularity
has been falling, and now has
reached its lowest point since
he was sworn into office on May
8, 2002.
The data if from a UNIMER poll
for the Spanish language daily
La Nación, of people polled
during November 11 and 23.
The performance of his ministers
gets even lower grades, since
only 13 out of every 100 rate it
"good" to "very good", while 64
say it is "bad" to "very bad".
The high cost of living, an
increase in the ranks of the
poor, and rising unemployment
are part of a scenario which
leads 84% of Costa Ricans to
assert that their conditions are
worse now than a year ago.
Furthermore, 66% believe that
things will be worse in 2006.
