"Green
Alert" For the Caribbean Coast
The Comisión Nacional de
Emergencias de Costa Rica (CNE)
called for a state of alert for
the northern and coastal areas
of the Caribbean due to the
heavy rains that have been
falling on the region since
Sunday.
The CNE called for a "green
alert" for those committees and
groups that maintain an eye on
the water levels of the rivers,
some of which have already
reached dangerous high levels.
A cold front stationed over
Costa Rica and Panaman,
according to the Instituto
Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) -
the weatherman - is causing the
heavy rain in the area and
affecting weather as well in the
Central valley (San José).
Yesterday afternoon, most of San
José was under cloud cover and a
downpour, unusual for this time
of year.
In Panama, the weatherman there,
has also put out an alert for
the areas of Bocas del Toro,
Verguas and Colón.
The weatherman says that
conditions should improve by
today (Tuesday), though the CNE
has said that it will maintain
the alert status for a couple of
more days still.
