ICE Expanding Work
Force By 6.000
The Instituto
Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) plans to
hire some 6.000 more people in the coming
years, expanding its employee base from
24.000 to 30.000, said ICE's president,
Pedro Pablo Quirσs, in an announcement
yesterday.
Arias Signs
Hydroelectric Water Concessions
Costa Rica's president Oscar Arias has
signed into law a bill that creates a
hydroelectric water concessions framework,
the presidential website reported. The new
framework also allows an extension to the
concession for the same period as long as
all ministry requirements are complied with.
INS Expands
Vehicle and Homeowners Insurance Coverage
The Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS)-
state insurer - has expanded its roadside
assistance program and home owners policy to
include greater coverage in the event of a
roadside problem or home break in.
Low Vitamin D
Linked to Severe Asthma, Study Shows
Low levels of vitamin D may be linked to
severity of asthma in children, according to
a new study of
participants that included 616 children with
asthma in Costa Rica between the ages of 6
and 14. Of the participants, 175 had
insufficient levels of vitamin D.
Abangares Proposes
Mining Tourism Project
(InfoWebPress) The Municipality of
Abangares is putting its support behind a
project to create a National Mining Tourism
Program. The proposal was made before the
Popular Initiative Office once it was
