INS Expands
Vehicle and Homeowners Insurance Coverage
The Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS)-
state insurer - has expanded its roadside
assistance program and home owners policy to
include greater coverage in the event of a
roadside problem or home break in.
The INS announced yesterday that it
increased the roadside assistance program to
include insured vehicles up to 20 years old,
from 15 years, who experience roadside
problems.
INS customers can call the helpline to have
their stalled or stuck vehicle towed, have
gasoline delivered, change a tire, a boost
or legal advice over the telephone.
Francisco Gómez, of the Dirección de
Automóviles del INS, made the annoucement
yesterday, that included a new service
called "conductor designado" (designated
driver) - a driver where special
circustances, including health problems, do
not permit the customer to drive the vehicle
home.
Gómez was clear in his announcement that the
designated driver does not apply to
situations of drunk driving and that this
service only applies to insured vehicle of
less than six years old.
The roadside assistance program is an option
to the INS insurance policies and costs
¢6.146 every six months.
Gómez added that cars involved in a
collision can now be inspected and evaluated
at 32 authorized repair shops around the
country and at INS stations, and by way of
cameras and special software to allow the "peritos"
(inspectors) to value the damage without
having to move the vehicle.
Currently, vehicles have to be taken to an
INS inspection station, the few stations
around the country.
In the case of home insurance policies,
customers who are insured under the Hogar
Seguro 2000, Hogar Comprensivo y Seguro,
will also be able to get reimbursed for
damage to plumbing, locks, electrical and
other items.
