Riteve wants to more than triple the cost of vehicle inspections

November 18^th, 2015 (ICR News) Riteve (RTV), the company that holds the government concession to provide annual mandatory motor vehicle inspections, sent a request to regulator ARESEP this week to more than triple its inspection fees.

If approved, the cost of the mandatory inspection of light vehicles would increase from ¢9,930 to ¢30,320.

Riteve says that such a drastic increase in fees is necessary, as regulators have not approved any increase in the fees since 2005.

Regulators have rejected eight consecutive rate hikes requested by the company since 2005, most recently in November of last year, when regulators also rejected the company’s request to more than triple its fees.

Regulators have 10 days to approve or reject the company’s request.

The Spanish-owned company, which employs some 400 people in Costa Rica received the concession to perform the mandatory annual vehicle inspections in 2001.
