Regulator rejects increase in vehicle inspection fees

rtv0512

November 26th, 2014 (InsideCostaRica.com) Public services regulator, ARESEP has rejected a request by Riteve (RTV) to more than triple its fee for annual mandatory vehicle inspections.

Riteve had requested an increase from ¢9,000 to ¢30,000 per inspection earlier this month, saying that the large increase was due to the fact that its fees have not been revised since 2005.

The Spanish-owned firm received the concession to perform the mandatory annual vehicle inspections in 2001.

They should have known that they would not get this increase. You have a new president that is trying to bring down costs not increase it.

I went to pay Marcharmo yesterday….Bring lots of money!! Every year the car is older and each year Marcharmo is raised. This year was the biggest that I remember. Especially when you consider the value of the car is dropping and the fee is increasing…double whammy. I did not bring sufficient money and had to go to ATM to pay.
