White House on lockdown, Biden calls Boston explosions a “bombing”

April 15th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) The White House in Washington, D.C. is reportedly on lockdown while security personnel have heightened security measures around the White House and throughout Washington, after a pair of twin explosions rocked the finish line of the Boston Marathon a little more than an hour ago, killing at least three people and injuring at least 30, though those numbers have not yet been officially confirmed.

U.S. Vice President, Joe Biden, called the explosions a “bombing,” though there has yet to be any official confirmation that the explosions were an act of terrorism.

The blasts occurred a few seconds apart on opposite sides of the finish line, according to CNN.

The explosions occurred about an hour after the first of the race’s nearly 27,000 runners crossed the finish line.  The race was halted following the explosions, as well as subway service in the area.

Paramedics were treating several victims at the scene.  Troops from the Massachusetts National Guard were also assisting police.

It is believed that the explosions may be terrorist-related, though ICR is currently awaiting official confirmation.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more details are available.
