Caracas - The
co-president of the
Student Council of the
Education School in
Universidad de Los
Andes, Anthony Pernia,
blamed the opposition
for Monday's violence
that left three
policemen wounded in
Merida, Venezuela.
Right wing groups
generate violence and
play victims, and "are
the ones concocting
these plans to blame the
revolutionary student
movement."
Pernia, member of the
revolutionary group
Utopia 78, said the
armed groups inside the
campus take advantage of
the autonomy and
authority "to poke
violence and unrest in
the city."
He added that the
violence is part of the
plots to undermine the
February 15 referendum
that proposes non-stop
re-election of public
officials.
Pernia issued a call, on
behalf of progressive
student movements, to
engage in civic and
academic debates if
there is true wish to
discuss the amendment.

that the Revolutionary
Student Movement is more
than ever committed to
President Hugo Chavez
and s arranges
committees at the
University to promote
the YES vote.
