Campaign in Nicaragua
Managua - Nicaraguans
are developing a house
by house campaign aimed
at declaring the country
free of illiterates next
July 19 in occasion of
the 30th anniversary of
the triumph of the
Sandinista Revolution.
According to the
technician in Youngsters
and Adult Literacy
Education Department of
the Education Ministry
(MINED) Yorlin Valkiria
Palma in New Segovia to
declare those
municipalities free of
illiterates teachers
must visit all the
district houses to get
them involved in the
literacy centers.
This department is
getting ready to its
areas free of this
scourge and the
municipalities of
Dipilto, Quilali, Wiwili,
Jalapa and Antigua city
will be recognized on
February 6; Macuelizo
and Santa Maria on May
30; Mozonte on May 15;
San Fernando on June 23
and Ocotal on June 29.
In addition, delegates
of the Citizens Power
cabinet and teachers
from different
communities of Pueblo
Nuevo, Esteli, hope to
declare this territory
free of illiterates by
May, according to
reports of the Education
Ministry.
The national literacy
crusade the Nicaraguans
are carrying, called
from Marti to Fidel,
mainly uses the Cuban
teaching method ‘Yes I
Can’ Yo si Puedo is
highly appreciated
because of the
authorities purpose to
make the population
reach the minimum school
degree of six degree.
