TDMA Customers Will Be
Allowed To Keep Number
According to the
Instituto Costarricense
de Electricidad (ICE),
the 400.000 TDMA
cellular telephone
customers who are being
forced to give up their
lines next year need not
lose their number if
they choose to subscribe
to the new 3G
techonology that will be
in place by mid 2009.
TDMA customers will have
the option of
subscribing to the
either the current GSM
networks installed by
Alcatel or Ericsson or
the newer third
generation of cellular
service. However, the
number is transferable
only with the third
generation of cellular
service.
Elbert Durán, an ICE
spokesperson, said they
the institution is not
sure how many TDMA
customers will switch to
either the 3G or GSM
networks or cancel their
subscription entirely.
