March For Respect On
Public Roads
A group of pedestrians
and cyclists to the
streets yesterday,
walking from the Canal 7
offices in Sabana to the
house of Costa Rican
president, Oscar Arias,
a short distance away in
Rohrmoser, to ask the
president for a little
room on the nation's
roads and to ask for
respect for all those
who use the public
roads.
John Kloninger, head of
the Asociación "A
Convivir", said the
march was to point out
the lack of respect
between drivers,
pedestrians and
sportsmen on the roads.
The group wants adequate
space for people to
practice sports, like
building bicycle routes
for the specific use of
cyclists.
The group ended their
march in front of the
Arias house in the
morning, however, the
president returned from
his trip to the U.S. in
the afternoon.
Pedestrians and cyclists
constantly battled it
out on the open roads,
typically ending in the
injuring, and in some
cases death, from being
hit by vehicles.
Saturday and Sunday
mornings, cyclists have
taken to using the
Fernando Prospero
highway between the
Forum and the Mauco
plant in Santa Ana,
using the right lane as
a bicycle route, riding
alongside fast moving
traffic on that open
stretch of highway.
