Another Criminal Killed
in Botched Attempt
A criminal, identified
as Yermy López Corrales,
died of gunshot to the
shoulder as more
citizens are fighting
back in the face of
increase violence and
police incapacity.
During an botched "bajonazo",
bodyguards of Walter
Solís Méndez, opened
fire on the 23 year old
in Vargas Araya, in San
Pedro.
The bajonazo - putting a
gun to the head of
driver in an attempt to
steal the vehicle - has
become common as
criminals stalk their
intended victim waiting
for an opportune time to
strike.
In yesterday's case, the
victim was being
followed by the
criminals. When the
victim stepped out of
his vehicle, a Toyota
Land Cruiser worth over
us$50.000, the criminals
went into action.
It was 4:20pm when two
delinquents in
motorcycles, wearing
closed off helmets,
decided to strike,
forcing bodyguards to
respond as the
motorcycles blocked off
the vehicle. Gun shots
were exchanged and one
of the assailants was
hit, according to
witnesses, who scrambled
to get away from attack
and become a victim of
the crossfire.
Vargas Araya is a calm
community, or at least
has been, now residents
are calling on
authorities provide more
police patrols and
vigilance as the area is
fast becoming a target.
