Another Criminal Killed in Botched Attempt
A criminal, identified as Yermy López Corrales, died of gunshot to the shoulder as more citizens are fighting back in the face of increase violence and police incapacity.

During an botched "bajonazo", bodyguards of Walter Solís Méndez, opened fire on the 23 year old in Vargas Araya, in San Pedro.

The bajonazo - putting a gun to the head of driver in an attempt to steal the vehicle - has become common as criminals stalk their intended victim waiting for an opportune time to strike.

In yesterday's case, the victim was being followed by the criminals. When the victim stepped out of his vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser worth over us$50.000, the criminals went into action.

It was 4:20pm when two delinquents in motorcycles, wearing closed off helmets, decided to strike, forcing bodyguards to respond as the motorcycles blocked off the vehicle. Gun shots were exchanged and one of the assailants was hit, according to witnesses, who scrambled to get away from attack and become a victim of the crossfire.

Vargas Araya is a calm community, or at least has been, now residents are calling on authorities provide more police patrols and vigilance as the area is fast becoming a target.
