Ruta 32 to Limón Continues Closed
A landslide on Sunday closed off entirely passage on Ruta 32, the main road that connects San José to Limón. The road is still closed as of this morning as work crews are working around the clock to clear the road of debris and to ensure that a new landslide does not occur.

The works crews of the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) say the closure is indefinite after two failed attempts to reestablish passage.

The blockage is at kilometre 27.

The Policía de Tránsito has decided to detour traffic around the blockage in a effort to keep traffic moving to and from Limón.

The alternate routes are either through Turrialba or Vara Blanca, although, according to Tránsito officials, the majority of truckers refuse to move until road is cleared.

To use the Turrialba alternate, drivers are asked to go through Cartago, taking the "old" road that leads to Turrialba and to Siquirres and onto Ruta 32. The Vara Blanca alternate is south of Heredia, heading for Sarapiquí, turning off to Guapiles and back onto Ruta 32.
