Chavez Reinforces Links
in Honduras
Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez arrived in
Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Tuesday, following his
participation at the
inauguration of
Guatemalan President
Alvaro Colom.
Yesterday in Guatemala
he told Honduran HRN he
would go to the Honduran
capital, a city he does
not know, and would talk
to anyone within the
time available.
Chavez recalled Simon
Bolivar and Francisco
Morazan, and said he
hoped to go to
Tegucigalpa by taxi,
whose union is affected
by the high oil prices.
Honduran President
Manuel Zelaya, who also
participated in the
ceremony in Guatemala,
told HRN he would
receive Chavez in the
Presidential House,
because it is a safe
place for a private
conference.
Taxi drivers and popular
organizations planned
street demonstrations to
support Chavez and the
government of Honduran
President Manuel Zelaya
Rosales, which seeks an
oil agreement after
entering PETROCARIBE.
Honduras became the 17th
PETROCARIBE member
number at the fourth
Summit in Cienfuegos,
Cuba in 2007.
