Negotiations continue on
Friday at the Nicaragua
National Assembly
(Parliament), where
political parties are
seeking consensus to
call for a special
session to pass several
economic bills.
The Christian Democratic
Union Party (UDC) had
previously called for a
special session, faced
with the possibility of
losing millions of
dollars in donations.
In a letter addressed to
deputies, UDC chairman
Agustin Jarquin urged
Members of Parliaments
to fulfill their
responsibility with the
people.
Last Wednesday, the
representative of the
Interamerican
Development Bank (IDB)
in Nicaragua, Mirna
Lievano warned the
institution will grant a
$20 million loan
inmediately after the
bill is passed.
The legislative
standstill is promoted
by the right-wing
Liberal party, which is
pushing for introducing
a bill to revoke the
Nov. 9 regional
elections that were won
by the ruling Sandinista
