Gallopinto A Total
Success
Some came as far as the
coastal areas to enjoy a
free "gallopinto" which
was on the menu on Paseo
Colon yesterday, where
some 40.000 plates were
served.
The event was the first
"Día Nacional del
Gallopinto", organized
by William Muñoz, who
confessed that he took
the idea from a similar
activity in Mexico.
The event was a total
success, as the chefs
from the hotel Ramada
Herradura served up
10.000 more plates than
they had expected.
Paseo Colon was closed
off to vehicular traffic
from the east side of
the Sabana Park to the
past the Toyota
dealership, as sponsors
set up tents to promote
their products and fill
the plates of the
thousands of visitors.
In front of the Banco de
Costa Rica, folk dancers
and music filled the
stage.
"The most important is
that Costa Ricans have
shown that they are
favourable to these
types of events. Yes, it
is free, but we are
giving them a quality
product. We are not
going to use bad beans
or a sour natilla", said
Muñoz.
The costs of the event
came to us$150.000 which
was paid by the various
sponsors, that included
the cost of the 2.000 kg
of beans and 1.800 kg of
rice.
A total of 75 chefs
participated in the food
preparation and serving.
